News Release

Update of Sac County Projects on D59

The Boyer River Bridge Rehabilitation project west of Wall Lake is behind schedule because of a delay in getting the new I-beams and other steel items fabricated and delivered to the project site.  The I-beams were delivered the 2nd week of June so the contractor, Christensen Brothers, Inc. of Cherokee is making progress.  Pending weather or other delays the bridge should be completed by the first of August.  The $739,112.60 cost will be paid for with 80% Federal Bridge replacement funds and 20% Farm to Market Funds.

A contract has been signed with Cedar Valley Corp. LLC of Waterloo to overlay D59 from Wall Lake to the Ida County line with Portland Cement Concrete.  The contractor’s current plan is to move in and start working on the project the last part of August and start paving in September but weather will affect their schedule.

The contract price of $2,666,373 will be paid for with $1.2 million of Federal STP Funds and the balance from Farm to Market funds.

The contractor is required to maintain access to residences along the project.

As the concrete overlay is placed no one will be allowed to drive on the pavement until it has cured which is estimated to be 3 days.  During this time access will be limited and residents may be required to park vehicles at the nearest gravel road.  The contractor will communicate with residents to minimize the inconvenience.

Please avoid this section of D59 during this construction project.

Please drive carefully and obey the “Road Closed” signs and closure fences.  Opening the fences to drive through is illegal, can damage the project, and cause damage to your vehicle and injury to you or others who drive into the construction zone after you take the fence down.  BE SAFE, if there is a “Road Closed” sign don’t drive into the construction zone even if the fence is down.
When it is safe to travel the signs will be removed.

As with all road construction projects the progress depends on the weather, equipment breakdowns and other delays beyond the contractor’s control.  The timelines are the best guess at the time this is written.

If you have any questions, please call the Sac County Engineer’s Office at 712-662-7687.
