FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE reGARDING cOVID-19 VACCINATION

January 12, 20201
Contact: Shelley Vauble, Sac County Health Services 712-662-4785
sacphns@saccounty.org

Sac County Health Services is receiving a lot of questions about when residents will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.  Iowa currently is still in Phase 1A priority populations of health care personnel and long-term care residents and staff. We hope to move into Phase 1B in early February, but we don't have a precise date at this time.  As more vaccines become available, Iowa’s Infectious Disease Advisory Council (IDAC), will review guidance issued by the CDC’s advisory group the Advisory Council on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to  further prioritize populations to receive the vaccine in Iowa. IDAC is currently reviewing ACIP recommendations for Phase 1B and 1C priority populations.

Below are the CDC recommendations for the Phase 1b and 1c populations:

Phase 1b
  • Frontline essential workers such as fire fighters, police officers, corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, United States Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the educational sector (teachers, support staff, and daycare workers.)
  • People aged 75 years and older because they are at high risk of hospitalization, illness, and death from COVID-19. People aged 75 years and older who are also residents of long-term care facilities should be offered vaccination in Phase 1a.
  •
Phase 1c
  • People aged 65—74 years because they are at high risk of hospitalization, illness, and death from COVID-19. People aged 65—74 years who are also residents of long-term care facilities should be offered vaccination in Phase 1a.
  • People aged 16—64 years with underlying medical conditions which increase the risk of serious, life-threatening complications from COVID-19.
  • Other essential workers, such as people who work in transportation and logistics, food service, housing construction and finance, information technology, communications, energy, law, media, public safety, and public health.
  • Please continue to watch our page and the media for more information on when we're scheduling clinics.

Please continue to watch our Facebook page and local newspapers/media for more information on when we're scheduling clinics and how you will be able to schedule a Covid-19 vaccination when available in Sac County.

Until vaccine is widely available to all, it is critical that Iowans continue to practice the mitigation measures that can slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
  •  Wearing a mask or face covering
  • Practice social distancing with those outside your household
  • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water
  • Stay home if you feel sick
