In Iowa, official registrations of births, deaths and marriages began in
1880. Sac County Records are missing at the county level for the years
1880 through 1888 due to a fire which destroyed the courthouse in October of
1888.Copies of birth, death and marriage records from 1888 to 1920 and 1942 to
the present are available for viewing during regular business hours.
County recorders do not have code authority to have on record single-parent
births prior to July 1, 1995, adoptions, and record ordered sealed by a court
of law, or vital records between the years 1921 to 1941. Their records
may be obtained by contacting:

Certified copies are available at $15 each to those persons with
entitlement. Entitlement would include the person named on record (if 18
or older), mother or father (if named on record), spouse, brother or sister (if
18 or older), maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents (if father is
named on record).
*Payment for all fees, licenses and registrations can be made by cash or by check payable to the
Sac County Recorder.
