The Sac
County Conservation Board employs a full-time naturalist who is
responsible for providing quality outdoor programming for
schools, civic clubs, private groups and the general
public. Programs are offered year round and span a variety
of topics including landscaping, wildflower
identification, bird watching, cross-county skiing,
birdhouse construction and many more! Summer and winter
day camps are offered for youth as well as in-class and
on-site programs for Sac County’s five school districts.
Environmental
education programs expose participants to Iowa’s wildlife
including live animals, mounted specimens, study skins and
media resources. Hands-on activities are stressed so that
learning can become an up-close and personal experience.
Programs are tailored for individual audiences and when
given for school groups, are often mirroring what the
students are learning at that time.
Environmental education is an important part of all
people’s lives, giving them a better and more complete
view of the world around them and thus making them more
informed citizens. By combining science, art, social
studies, language, and mathematics, environmental
education is a powerful learning tool. To find out more
