***PLEASE NOTE***
JUNE 17, 2005
We will accept internet payments up to this date. No payments will be
accepted from this date through June 20, 2005 because of the Tax Sale.
Taxes are due in our office twice a year. Statements are sent out about
the 2nd week of August each year. If you choose to make this in two
payments, the 1st half is due in September and the 2nd half is due in
March. Penalty is 1½% (rounded to the nearest
dollar) per month. Delinquent notices are sent out in February and
May. By May 19th, any delinquents that are left are sent to the newspaper
for publication for the upcoming Tax Sale.
The Tax Sale is held annually in the Sac Co. Treas. Office on the 3rd Monday in
June. Once sold at the Tax Sale, penalty is 2% per month plus costs.
If you are interested in bidding at the Tax Sale, we have MOST ASKED QUESTIONS
printed we can mail you ahead of time.
Tax Sale Redemptions are tax deeds are also handled in the Treasurer's Office.
Tax Searches consist of Paid taxes, legal descriptions (not by address)
parcel numbers, by name, or receipt number. You may come in and do your
own search, or we can do it for $2 per parcel number.
All of the money that comes into the county are funneled through the Treasurer's
Office by Miscellaneous Receipts. These are kept separate by line item
numbers. Some have separate accounts at the bank which we much keep track
of too.
And the end of the month, we balance everything that has been brought in making
sure we balance to the penny. Then we apportion this money out to each of
the entities (schools, cities, etc.) Monthly and Financial Reports are run at
this time.
When we see there is enough money in the Drains, we call in as many stamped
drainage warrants as possible. These have accumulated interest.
After these are processed, we issue checks to the warrant holder.
Sometimes the name on the warrant is different from the person paid because the
warrant owner has sold it to a purchaser. If you wish to be a purchaser,
please contact the Sac County Auditor's Office. If you have purchased any
of these stamped drainage warrants, please let our office know so that when it
comes time to issue payment, you are notified.
Twice a year we attend ISAC (Iowa State Association of Counties) and once a year
we attend ISCTA (Iowa State County Treasurer's Association). Other than
that, we attend ICUBE (Iowa Computer User of Burrows Equipment) twice a year to
learn the new changes, updates, programs and technologies.
All Payroll and Claims warrants are sent out by the Auditor's Office, paid at
the banks and brought to the Treas. for payment. After balancing at the
end of the month, these warrants are taken back to the Auditor's Office for
filing.
